"Whether wine is a nourishing drink, a medicine or a poison is a matter of dosage."

Father of modern pharmacology and toxicology

The world’s first resveratrol-enhanced wines

Many of Australia's wine companies were founded by doctors such as Penfolds, Lindemans, Hardys, Angoves, Houghtons, Minchinbury and Stanley.

The Wine Doctor label, established by the medical and wine historian Dr Philip Norrie, also a Sydney GP, is a modern expression of this great tradition.

The Wine Doctor wines contain up to 100 times more of the powerful anti-oxidant resveratrol than is found naturally in wine.

Three R.E.W wines — a 2015 standard Shiraz, a 2015 Premium Shiraz, and the more concentrated ResElixir, all from South Australia - are now available under the Wine Doctor label.

The normal resveratrol content of wine is 1-2 milligrams per litre (whites) and 4-6 mg/l (reds). The resveratrol content of both The Wine Doctor wines has been boosted to 100 mg/l, giving the white wine the same content level as the red.

The anti-oxidants in wine are not stored in the body, so it is regular consumption, in moderation, of The Wine Doctor wines that delivers a significant dose of resveratrol.

Dr Norrie, who has a busy general practice at Elanora Heights in Sydney, says moderate consumption can be defined as a standard 750ml bottle of wine each day, shared between two people, with women advised to drink a little less than men.

Resveratrol: a natural grape product

The Wine Doctor R.E.W. process meets Australian food standards and wine-labelling requirements because resveratrol is a natural grape product and the added resveratrol is itself also a natural product derived from grapes.

One bottle of The Wine Doctor R.E.W. Chardonnay has as much resveratrol as 70-100 bottles of unenhanced white wine. One bottle of The Wine Doctor R.E.W. Red Blend or the 2009 Clare Valley Shiraz has as much resveratrol as 15-20 bottles of unenhanced red wine.

This means that for the first time white wine lovers can now also achieve the same level of resveratrol intake per glass as red wine drinkers.

Supporting a good cause

A proportion of revenue from the sale of resveratrol-enhanced wines in Australia will be donated to the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital and the Hamlin College of Midwives in Ethiopia

Australian obstetrician-gynaecologist
Dr Catherine Hamlin AC and her husband founded the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital and the Hamlin College of Midwives and
have since treated more than 40,000 women

Similar donations will be made to equivalent organisations in all markets where The Wine Doctor Resveratrol Enhanced Wines are sold.
